In today’s busy lifestyle, bathroom is the perfect place to relax, unwind and get some quality “me-time”. But what if the place where you are the king, makes you feel enclosed because you are tight on space.

Small bathrooms can make you feel confined and restricted. So here are some affordable ways to get the illusion of a bigger bathroom which is also serene and warm.

Declutter

Whenever you want to change the look and feel of some space, the first thing you do is Declutter. If you want to make your bathroom space look bigger, start assessing your bathroom critically and clear the unnecessary items. You can also install hidden storage solutions or use a decorative tray to keep the commonly used items. Drawer organizers can also be used to maximize storage.

Bring in Natural Light

Natural light creates illusion of space. If your bathroom has a window, use frosted glass or simply apply frosted window film. Do not use any heavy curtains as they might block natural light but use light passing panels or blinds. If you do not have a window provision, you can get skylight installed. It will make the dark bathroom bright and spacious.

Better Lighting

Dark corners can also make the space look smaller. To create the illusion of a larger space, you can improve your bathroom lights. Installing vanity lights on either side of the mirror can help you eliminate shadows and create a crisp and clean atmosphere. Layered lighting can also create depth and dimension. Use soft overhead light with bright task light around the mirror and accent light to enhance decorative elements. This will brighten the space and make it look bigger and better.

Mirrors on the wall

Mirrors can be a small space’s best friend when it comes to expanding the perspective of space. You can create a mirrored wall to make the perceived size larger. Using mirrored tiles as a backsplash can also add depth to the space.

Also, you must position the mirror in such a way that it reflects a window or a light source to maximize the effect. Placing end-to-end mirror on wall helps in expanding the space perspective as well.

Glass Shower Door

The shower doors create a seamless look that extends the visual space. A frameless clear glass shower door can make your bathroom look modern, rich, and open. You can also go for frosted or textured glass panels if you want to have privacy.

Same floor and Walls

If the transition between floor and walls is seamless, a small space can look substantial. You can choose light, neutral colors for both the floor and walls as it will maximize light reflection. Same paint on walls, as the flooring, can also make the space look continuous. You can also use large tiles to minimize grout lines and create a smoother look.

Sliding Door

Traditional swinging doors in a small bathroom can take up a lot of valuable space. You can use a sliding door in place of the swinging door to have more room.

Get Creative with Storage

Maximizing storage in a small bathroom can create a clutter free space. You can use floating shelves above the toilet or along empty wall space to store useful items. Also, over-the-door organizers can be used for towels and toiletries.

Making a small bathroom space look larger doesn’t always necessarily require extensive renovations or a huge budget. Some clever design tricks can also create the illusion of space and a better functionality.
